You might have noticed the slight radio silence on the blog the past couple of months. We sincerely apologize for those that were looking forward to reading about our work. That said, despite the lack of blog posts here, we’ve been incredibly busy!
Last April we officially launched the Research and Innovation Chair in Animal Welfare and Artificial Intelligence (WELL-E). For those of you familiar with our work, this is in many ways a continuation of the previous research chair dedicated to improving the welfare and management of dairy cattle in Canada. However, for this next stage of the chair we are excited to announce our collaboration with the Computer Science Department at UQAM. More specifically, we would like to introduce Dr. Abdoulaye Banire Diallo, who will be joining, with his lab, as co-chair of the WELL-E collaboration. The addition of AI and IoT methods to our research will not only allow us to increase the quantity of data collected and automate certain processes, but will open the door to new research questions within both fields and at the intersection between them.
As we move forward in this new adventure, the way we will be sharing information with all of you will be changing. For a more comprehensive overview of the progress of our research, we will be putting out a bi-annual newsletter that summarizes the research projects, community engagement, and other accomplishments we can achieve over the course of the chair. We will be posting the newsletter directly on the newly launched WELL-E website: www.well-e.org and will also make it available directly on the Cowlife Website. The first edition will be coming soon, stay tuned for future updates!

Vous avez peut-être remarqué le léger silence sur le blog ces derniers mois. Nous nous excusons sincèrement auprès de ceux qui attendaient avec impatience d’en lire plus au sujet de nos recherches. Cela dit, malgré le manque d’activité ici, nous avons été incroyablement occupés !
En avril dernier, nous avons officiellement lancé la chaire recherche-innovation en bien-être animal et intelligence artificielle (WELL-E). Pour ceux d'entre vous qui sont familiers avec nos travaux, il s'agit à bien des égards d'une continuation de la chaire de recherche précédente consacrée à l'amélioration du bien-être et de la gestion des bovins laitiers au Canada. Cependant, pour cette prochaine étape de la chaire, nous sommes heureux d'annoncer notre collaboration avec le département d'informatique de l'UQAM. Plus précisément, nous souhaitons vous présenter Dr Abdoulaye Banire Diallo, qui nous rejoindra, avec son laboratoire, en tant que co-président de la collaboration WELL-E. L’ajout des méthodes d’intelligence artificielle et de l’internet des objets à nos recherches nous permet non seulement d’augmenter la quantité de données collectées et d’automatiser certains processus, mais ouvrira également la porte à de nouvelles questions de recherche au sein des deux domaines (sciences animales et sciences informatiques) et à leur intersection.
