Andrea Amado
M.Sc. Student
In June 2023, I graduated from McGill University (Montréal, QC, Canada) with a B.Sc. Agricultural and Environmental Sciences along with a specialization in Animal Production and Professional Agrology.
Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have had the opportunity to do internships in the agricultural sector. I worked full-time on a free-stall dairy farm where I learned technical skills regarding livestock management and developed a strong work ethic. Most importantly, working on this farm sparked my interest in animal welfare.
I also did an internship with Les Producteurs de bovins du Québec and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a research professional intern where I worked along other researchers on a research project to develop a grading system for grain-fed veal carcasses.
Similarly, I worked at La Société des Parcs d’Engraissement du Québec (SPEQ) as an agronomic research and development agent. In other words, I worked on various projects to develop new business models for beef producers.
Both experiences opened my eyes to the fact that I’m able to make real changes in the agricultural sector that will have a positive impact on the quality of life of producers.
As of September 2024, I started a M.Sc. in Animal Sciences at McGill University (Montréal, QC, Canada), motivated to become the bridge between new scientific advancements and producers while still improving the welfare of farm animals. I’m excited to work on a cutting-edge project alongside students who are just as motivated and committed as I am.
