Naziya Mauyenova

M.Sc. Candidate

The main purpose of my pursuit of getting a Master’s degree in Animal Science at the McGill University is to become a highly-qualified specialist in this field and contribute to the development of livestock industry.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Zootechnics, from the Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraygyrov in 2011. During my undergraduate studies, I was involved in numerous professional activities.

In 2013, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences from Kazakh National Agrarian University. During study years as a graduate student, I worked on a research project entitled “Comparative characteristics of breeding and productive indicators of domestic and imported cows in Southeast Kazakhstan”. In Kazakhstan, there is an issue related to lack of dairy cattle, accordingly, the majority of milk products are imported from Russia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan. That’s why the Government of Kazakhstan led the program in the framework of which dairy cattle were imported in large numbers from near and far abroad between 2011 and 2015. Accordingly, my research project was directed to study the effectiveness of import of Holstein cows

After graduation, in 2013, I started working at the Division of Strategic Development of the Livestock Department at the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

Working at the Ministry opened to me the new world, the world full of challenges, high demands and responsibility. The main functional responsibilities were participation in policy definition in livestock, strategic planning and supervising subsidiaries such as “KazAgro” National Management Holding” JSC and its subsidiaries, “Scientific and Innovative Center for Livestock and Veterinary” LLP, Association “Meat Union of Kazakhstan”, “Milk Union of Kazakhstan” LLP, “National Export and Investment Agency “KAZNEX INVEST” JSC.

I firmly believe that Animal Science graduate program provides students with an exceptional opportunity to grow as both professionals and individuals. Most importantly, it will help me to deepen my theoretical knowledge and research experience, that I will use to advance my professional career in the field of agriculture.

I am eager to study dairy cow industry in order to find key factors that will lead to development of this sector and increase its profitableness.

My ultimate professional goal is to establish a program for development of agriculture in Kazakhstan, which would help Kazakhstani Government and entrepreneurs to improve the main economic sector.
